This is probably the way the newest version of winauth is when it is released as 3.7. It is coming to the end of its life and is requesting a global ui refurbishment. Thanks to all those who have used winauth, provided fixes and suggestions.

To use:

New features

Version 3.5 includes steam exchange confirmations.

If you have registered steamguard with winauth 3.3.7 or earlier, the gamer will need to erase the stretch from their own mail or steam social network and add it again. This is due to the fact that winauth 3.3 only retained information regarding the generation of steamguard authenticator codes, however, additional information is required for authentication.

You can click in the working steam client, select "entry data" , steam authenticator then click "manage steam guard". Click the "remove authenticator" button and type in the recovery code (also known as the revocation code, which is appropriate to find by right-clicking in winauth).

General questions

All authenticators simply carry another security requirement. None of which are as effective as possible.

A physical computer or a bunch of keys is by far the best protection. Even though the player is still susceptible to any man-in-the-middle attack, there is no way to get the secret key stored here. If the customer is concerned about this, download one of them.

An iphone app or an android tablet app without root access is also protected. It's unlikely to get a hold of a private key stored on a gadget, however, some apps allow you to export a key that can jeopardize your authenticator when the person doesn't physically secure your phone. Also, if such applications make backup clones of their own data somewhere else, all predictions are vulnerable.

On a rooted android phone, your private key may have been read by an exiting application. Some applications don't even encrypt the keys, so this is considered risky.

Winauth stores your secret character in an encrypted file on your laptop. Although its use does not have the ability to provide the same security as a separate physical device, everything we can to protect the key on your laptop has been done. As stated above, physical access to any computer would be an invaluable way to compromise any authenticator.

winauth exists and has been in use since mid-2010 and has been downloaded by many hundreds of customers.

It was open source at all times, allowing anyone to monitor and examine the code. A binary file is provided, but the source code is always released at the same time, so you can enjoy the code and build it yourself.

No personal information goes to various third party servers. It does not detect any specific account information at all, only your authenticator information.

Your smartphone has no other executable files installed. There is no installer that generates the fact that visitors cannot be controlled. Winauth is portable, so you can totally just start this stuff from anywhere.

Source code winauth is uploaded to github at http://github.Com/winauth/winauth and prebuilt binaries are included in releases. It's not published anywhere else, so please don't download any other software impersonating winauth.

Where does winauth store my authenticator?

B unlike a number of other authentication apps, winauth also doesn't send your order to any third party servers. Information about your authenticator is stored by default in the roaming profile of your mail or social network, in other words c:\users\appdata\roaming\winauth. However, it is possible to take this movie wherever you need it and write it to winauth on release.
